Gospel Context

The reason we need the Gospel
God created us in His image to live in Relationship with Him.

In our sin we have Rebelled against God and Ruined that opportunity.
As our Role model, Jesus lived in perfect submission to God.

His death on the cross was the perfect Ransom for our sin and He Rose on the third day as perfect proof of life after death.
You can Receive the gift of salvation if you Repent and believe. Are you Ready?
Relationship
Rebelled
Ruined
When a family has a baby, they do so in order to care for, encourage, invest in, protect and love the baby in the context of a relationship. They have a baby in order to see the baby grow up and live a productive life, all in the context of a Relationship with Him.

When God made us, He did so in order to care for, encourage, invest in and love us in the context of a Relationship. He created us to see us grow up and live productive lives, all in the context of a Relationship with Him.

If the baby grows up and rebels against the parents, the Relationship is broken and they miss out on the benefits of being in the family.
We are created to interact with the heart and mind of God in the same way we interact with the people in our lives.

We need to spend time with God, talking to Him and listening to God in prayer. Responding to His direction. Receiving encouragement from Him. Following His leadership so we can fulfill the purpose He has created us for.

In this is love, not that we loved God, but that He loved us and sent His Son to be the propitiation for our sins. 1 John 4:10

Made in the image of God.

The reason that a glove is made in the image of a hand is so the hand can fit inside of it and give it life and purpose.

If you take your hand out of your glove, the glove is lifeless and cannot fulfill its purpose. God made us in His image so he can, have a Relationship with us by living inside of us to give us life, love and the power to fulfill our purpose.

But if we Rebel against God and reject His presence in our hearts, we have no life within us and cannot fulfill our purpose.

As a result, we Ruin our lives and the opportunity to see the benefits of a Relationship with God.

Relationship

God created us in His image to live in Relationship with Him

In our sin we have Rebelled against God and Ruined that relationship. Genesis 1:26, Romans 1:21-23

Relationship - An interaction between two or more people. Think about how you conduct your relationship with your friends. You talk, share ideas, carry each other’s burdens, give and receive encouragement.

A Relationship with God has the same kind of interaction. Through prayer, you can talk with God and share ideas. He carries our burdens, gives us His patience, His wisdom, His power and love.

Rebelled

We Rebel when we reject God’s invitation for a Relationship, and refuse His advice and His direction in the way we should live our lives.

Our sinfulness is our prideful tendency to put our desires to please self before our desire to please God. It is our desire to make decisions that reflect the desires of our own heart instead of making decisions that reflect the heart of God.

Romans 1:21-23 because, although they knew God, they did not glorify Him as God, nor were thankful, but became futile in their thoughts, and their foolish hearts were darkened. Professing to be wise, they became fools, and changed the glory of the incorruptible God into an image made like corruptible man—and birds and four-footed animals and creeping things.

Ruined

Ruined – To damage irreperably, to subject to frustration, failure, or disaster.

Ruin - To damage or destroy our ability to experience the power, wisdom and love of God.

When we Rebel against God, we Ruin our access to the power, wisdom and love of God. We Ruin the opportunity to enjoy everything that comes from living in Relationship with God.

James 4:4 Do you not know that friendship with the world is enmity with God? Whoever therefore wants to be a friend of the world makes Himself an enemy of God.
